Privacy Policy
Overview
Ember is a screen filter app for Android. This policy describes what information the app accesses and how it is handled. The short version: Ember does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything the app stores stays on your device.
Information We Collect
Ember does not collect any personal information. No account is required to use the app. No analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs are included.
The app saves your preferences (filter on/off state, color preset, intensity level, schedule times, and similar settings) using Android's local storage (SharedPreferences). This data never leaves your device and is deleted if you uninstall the app.
Permissions
Ember requests the following system permissions:
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — Required to draw a color overlay on top of your screen content. This is the standard mechanism used by all screen filter apps. Ember uses this permission solely to display the filter and for no other purpose.
- Accessibility service — Optional. Used to maintain the color overlay across all apps, including those that restrict standard overlays. Ember's accessibility service reads no screen content, captures no input, and accesses no personal data. It is used only to keep the filter visible across app transitions.
- Modify system settings (WRITE_SETTINGS) — Optional. Used only if you choose to adjust screen brightness from within Ember. Granting this is not required to use the filter.
- Foreground service — Required to keep the filter running while you use other apps. Android requires foreground services to show a persistent status notification. This notification is informational only; no data is collected through it.
No other permissions are requested or used.
In-App Purchases
Ember offers an optional one-time upgrade (“Ember Pro”) available through Google Play's in-app billing system. All payment transactions are processed entirely by Google Play. Ember does not see, store, or handle any payment card details or billing information. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for information on how Google handles purchase data.
After a successful purchase, Ember stores a local flag on your device to remember that Pro features are unlocked. No personally identifiable information is stored as part of this.
Third-Party Services
Ember does not integrate with any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or social media SDKs. The only third-party component used is the Google Play Billing Library, which is required to process in-app purchases and is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
Children's Privacy
Ember is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Because Ember collects no personal data from any user, no special handling is required.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the new version will be posted at the same URL with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
